Criteria for Scholars' Awards
Our Scholars’ Assembly at the end of Term 1 celebrates the excellent achievements of Marsden students in their NCEA and Scholarship qualifications of the previous year.
Our top-performing students receive Scholars’ Awards, which are divided into two categories:
- Scholars’ badges (to acknowledge excellence)
- Scholars’ colours (to acknowledge outstanding achievement).
A recipient may receive only one of these awards.
The Marsden Scholars' Badge

Level 1 Marsden Scholars' badge |
Awarded to all students who have gained NCEA Level 1 endorsed with Excellence after completing their first full year of study at that level. The scholars’ badge (and Excellence endorsement) requires 50 credits at Excellence level and the Numeracy and Literacy Corequisite. |
Level 2 Marsden Scholars' badge |
Awarded to all students who have gained NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence after completing their first full year of study at that level. The scholars’ badge (and Excellence endorsement) requires 50 credits at excellence level. |
The Marsden Scholars' Colours

Level 1 Marsden Scholars' Colours |
Awarded to all students, mainly studying at Level 1, who have gained 70 or more Excellence credits at Level 1 or above and have gained their Numeracy and Literacy Corequisite. NB Discretionary colours may be awarded to students who have strong NCEA results and who have also gained excellent results in qualifications, which may be beyond their year level, such as Level 2 NCEA. |
Level 2 Marsden Scholars' Colours |
Awarded to all students who have gained 75 or more Excellence credits at Level 2 or above. Results should have been gained in the most recent year of study. NB Discretionary colours may be awarded to students who have strong NCEA results and who have also gained excellent results in qualifications beyond their year level such as Level 3 NCEA or Scholarship. Please note that a colours award usually requires five more credits at Excellence level for each of the above criteria. |
