Te Kākano – Year 9
Students will establish a strong connection with our learning community and to their role as tangata whenua. This will be achieved through:
- Service module in SEED classes
- Activities day which includes a high ropes course
- Matiu/Somes island noho
- Wellbeing activities within form and subject classes
- Serving activity/Garden
SEED classes will focus on connection to the school community. Students will work together on developing and expanding the Science garden, making it a productive vegetable garden. The gardening activity will be front loaded with teaching in Science around environmentalism, ecology and toitūtanga (sustainability). Students will research the needs of local community groups such as Bellyful, Kaibosh and Kura Kai. The garden produce may be used by Y9 Food Tech classes to make meals for these groups as a demonstration of our service to the wider community.
