Marsden 2024 Scholars’ Assembly
On Monday 8 April 2024 we held our annual Scholars’ Assembly to recognise the outstanding NCEA and Scholarship results of our current students from the previous year. Our top-performing students receive Scholars’ Awards, which are divided into two categories:
- Scholars’ badges (to acknowledge excellence)
- Scholars’ colours (to acknowledge outstanding achievement)
An important date in the Marsden calendar, the Scholars’ Assembly is a time for students in Years 7-13 to acknowledge and congratulate their peers, see them receive their award badges and to hear from past Marsden student guest speakers.
The morning commenced with a special morning tea where we welcomed parents and caregivers of our most prestigious colours’ recipients in the Cultural Centre before they joined their daughters and the rest of the school for Assembly.

As well as hearing talented student violinist, Aubane Farcy (Year 12) who played "Sakura", a traditional Japanese folk song, our two Marsden Poetry Award winners, Jeshna Madaan (Year 10) and Ari Andrews (Year 12) recited their award-winning poems.

Aubane (Year 12)
This year we were lucky enough to hear from two guest speakers, sisters, Schyana and Sarsha Sivanantham.
Schyana left Marsden in 2012 and was the Cultural Captain that year, and her younger sister Sarsha was the Deputy Head Girl in 2015.
Schyana is currently working as an evaluator at Te Ihu Waka, at the Education Review Office, an independent part of the government that works to make sure the education system is going well for the children and students of Aotearoa New Zealand. She is passionate about mental health and wellbeing.
Sarsha is currently working at Allen + Clarke, advisors to both businesses and the public sector, contributing to policy, strategy and organisational change projects. She is community-oriented with a passion for environmental and social impact-focused challenges, which has led her to volunteer for a range of charities.

The key takeaways from our speakers were valuable lessons for all of our students - surround yourself with people who lift you up, enjoy different perspectives, it’s fine to change or pivot your direction when studying, or anytime in life, and most importantly to trust in your own journey and ask for help when you need it.
Congratulations to all the amazing students who have achieved Scholars Badges, Colours Awards and to Year 11 student Milliann who has earned a scholarship in French.
