Physics, Maths and Chemistry

Singing Scientist

Richard joined the Marsden family in 2015 and teaches Physics, Maths and Chemistry. He was born and bred in Wellington, growing up in the Eastern Suburbs and attending Scots College then Victoria University of Wellington where he earned his BSc (Hons) and a Masters by thesis in Computational Chemistry.

Road to Marsden

Richard’s road to Marsden took a few turns along the way. After leaving high school he took some time off to work and save money. He started at Victoria University the following year while continuing to work, but ended up traveling to Europe for three months to attend a wedding in Wales, visit family in Rotterdam and travel. Returning to Wellington, Richard completed his degree then was selected for a summer research chemistry scholarship. He went on to study for a post-graduate diploma which became an Honours degree in Chemistry, and finally gained his Masters, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from Victoria.

Teaching

Richard started his career at Taita College teaching Science and Chemistry, then in 2015 came to join his sister Louise who also teaches at Marsden. In addition to teaching Richard is the Musical Director for our Upper School productions and coaches basketball and the senior Epro8 Competition students. As for teaching the girls at Marsden Richard says, “I really enjoy the way our students are self-motivated and really keen to do their best. It makes teaching them really rewarding.”
