History Teacher

Sandra Glanville is Marsden’s senior History teacher and Social Sciences teacher for Years 8-10. She joined Marsden in 2024 after relocating to Wellington with her family, having previously held various teaching roles in Auckland, including Head of Social Studies at St Cuthbert’s College.

With a BA from the University of Otago and a teaching diploma from Auckland Teacher’s College, Sandra has also worked in teacher education at the University of Auckland. She is a passionate advocate for the importance of New Zealand History in schools and is committed to delivering a modern, relevant curriculum that sparks curiosity and deepens understanding.

Education is a privilege that so many people in the world do not have. I hope to help my students treasure their education and use it to help facilitate the changes that they want to see in the world.

Sandra believes in empowering students by teaching metacognition - helping them understand how they learn, so they can take ownership of their education. She also values the connection between the arts and sciences, believing that humanities play a crucial role in shaping innovative solutions to global challenges.

Beyond the classroom, Sandra enjoys gardening, exploring Wellington’s green spaces with her Scottish bearded collie, Lyra, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
