English and Social Sciences teacher Rebecca George is one of our treasured Old Girls that has continued her long association with Marsden by coming back to teach and by sending her daughter Abbie to school here.

Background

Rebecca grew up in Karori and attended Marsden for her high school years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Victoria University of Wellington, spent some time overseas, then returned to Wellington and gained two teaching diplomas - a Diploma in Teaching English as a second language and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. She started teaching at Marsden part-time in 2011 and joined the staff full-time in 2014.

Excited about students' futures

The opportunity to watch students learn, develop lifelong friendships, find their voice and get excited about their futures is one of the things Becks most appreciates about teaching here and being a Dean.

Many of the girls enter Year 7 wide-eyed and apprehensive about what the Upper School might be like, and by the time the year ends they have exhibited grit and grace to face any challenges, they have gained the confidence to step-up and try new things and they have discovered new academic interests and strengths. It is a joy to be a part of all of that.

Family time

Becks and husband Drew have two children, Abbie and Louie. Drew’s family has also been connected with Marsden for many years, all of his aunties and mother went to school at Marsden and were Head Girls. Outside of school Becks is a part of the Marsden Old Girls Committee, and enjoys golf, walks, yoga, reading and most of all spending time with her family.
