Karen Richards has been with Marsden for 12 years as Head of the iCentre and Primary Library, managing both spaces with support from our school librarians. With experience in public libraries, a law library, a court library, a university library, and two school libraries, Karen brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. She also has a background in facilitating programmes and teaching adults in preparation for job qualifications.

Karen holds a library qualification and a postgraduate adult teaching qualification from Wellington Teachers' College and Massey University respectively. She is also a registered member of Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA). This accreditation reflects her commitment to professional standards and continuing professional development in the library and information profession.

Every day when I unlock the doors to the iCentre or the Primary Library, I love that there is an opportunity to support students and staff, whether it is finding a book to bury themselves in, a resource for their research, being involved in school community activity, or just engaging with a smile and a chat. Every day is a good day!

Outside of school, Karen enjoys walking, reading, gardening, interior design, cooking, and socialising. Her home is always open, with a large dining table, bookshelves, and a cosy fire, creating the perfect gathering space for friends and family.

Karen feels fortunate to work in such a wonderful environment, particularly one she helped design. She believes the iCentre is the heart of the school, where she can support the Marsden community in many meaningful ways every day.
