Digital Technologies Teacher

Alysha Dougherty joined Marsden in 2024 as the Digital Technologies teacher and also lends her expertise to several junior Art classes. She brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering digital literacy. Alysha’s enthusiasm, expertise, and commitment to student wellbeing make her an invaluable addition to the Marsden community.

Education

Alysha's journey began after earning her Bachelor of Design with First Class Honours, majoring in Spatial Design from Massey University in 2013. Her fascination with CAD software and industrial technologies ignited her career path. Subsequently, she pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching Secondary from Victoria University in 2015, where she was honoured with the Victoria University Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding academic and practicum performance.

Professional journey

Alysha’s professional background is rich and diverse. Initially, she worked as an intern Spatial Designer, contributing to projects for prestigious institutions like museums and zoos across Aotearoa. She delved into community and freelance work, designing sets and props for various theatrical productions and interactive exhibitions, including a notable project at Te Papa commemorating World War 1.

 

Transitioning into education, Alysha spent eight years at St Patrick’s College, Wellington, where she taught a range of subjects, from Technology and Design to Visual Arts. Notably, she co-created a cross-curricular Digital Technologies and Business Studies course, showcasing her commitment to innovative teaching practices. Her dedication to student and staff wellbeing earned her recognition, leading to her nomination as the sole female member of the Association of Boys’ Schools of New Zealand Research Committee in 2019.

A commitment to student wellbeing

Passionate about student hauora, Alysha believes in creating a nurturing classroom atmosphere where students can thrive emotionally and academically. She is excited about the opportunity to continue expanding her digital skills and sharing this knowledge with her students, empowering them to embrace lifelong learning and growth.

Beyond the classroom

Beyond her professional endeavours, Alysha finds joy in creative pursuits. Whether crafting handmade jewellery, experimenting with digital art, or engaging in painting, her creative spirit knows no bounds. However, her ultimate source of fulfilment lies in her family.
